I'm exploring natural tooth care because it hasn't sat well with me that I've been blasting my mouth out with chemically-laden commercial toothpastes. The organic ones were so expensive too, so I did a bit of reading about what I could do myself. It turns out that what you rub on your teeth isn't as important as the rubbing itself in so far as tooth care (and flossing is more important than brushing). So I've made this homemade toothpaste with which to rub off food and build-up without compromising the healthy bacteria in my mouth. I've been using this recipe for about 3 months and it's great! It tastes a bit salty but that gets the saliva going which is a good thing.
Homemade Toothpaste
3tbs coconut oil
3tbs bicarbonate of soda
1tsp stevia
20 drops peppermint oil
Mix all the ingredients together to make a paste and store in a sterilised jar.
Treating your toothbrush with citrus/grape seed extract after brushing manages the bacteria left on the brush, too.

Hi Ayla! Lovely of you to pop by my blog :) Great to hear what you are up too, sounds like busy times. We moved from Tassie about 4/5mths ago now to Victoria (near the Great Ocean Road, a little seaside community). Tassie did not work for us as we planned, I really hated the cold and work was extremely slow for us so we decided to make a move. I guess it just didnt feel like home. THere is a lovely community of families that you will be able to slot right into though! Cant believe how big R is and his beautiful white blonde hair, would be fun to see him and my M together now at the same age, they seem to have similar interests. Talk soon x Bec
Hey Ayla, I'm assuming the coconut oil and stevia can be bought easily? Thanks xXxX
Hi Bec! I'm sorry that Tas didn't work out for you, whereabouts did you live there? We've bought in the Huon Valley. I hope we can meet up sometime soon and get the boys together :) The JB festival will down around near Geelong next year.
Mariko, yep both can be bought at Woollies! I get Melrose organic coconut oil, and powdered stevia can be found in the sugar section.
